Nubra Valley in Ladakh – River, Greenery and Slow Travel

I found my ideal do-nothing place in Ladakh’s Nubra Valley. It was a place for long walks in the meadows, reading books with a cup of tea in a garden chair, eating seabuckthorn fruits on the riverbed, relishing apricots straight off the tree, hiding behind the bush watching a herd of Bactrian Camel in the wild, chasing shepherds, walking along the river and watching sunsets while listening to sweet sound of the flow. The days in Nubra were filled with activity and yet I wasn’t really doing anything.

A wise man once said, “Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.” Travelling has some semblance with this statement. If we run from place to place seeking excitement and new experiences, those pleasures always seems to be someplace other than where we are. We humans need change of place at times, but making it a mission to keep changing places probably doesn’t work. The proverbial butterfly requires that you rest.

Trekking Experience On 'Koilkonda Fort' At Mahbubnagar In Telangana

While I have never been a very serious trekker, I had my share of treks in Himalayas and also in Panchmadi in Madhya Pradesh. But as time passed I thought what the hell; let me give some competition to Maradona if in nothing else, then in waist size.

Now a days I rarely rough it out and focus on travel with my kids and wife, but when our adventure club organized a hike to KoilKonda fort in Mahbubnagar district, I could not resist and decided to join the same.

We reached Mahbubnagar around 1:30 pm in the afternoon and had a heavy lunch of Chilli Biryani (the amount of chilies must have been equal to the amount or rice, ok I exaggerate, but you get the gist). What a mistake it was, I realized after about an hour when I was halfway in the trek.

Let The Forests Of 'Chhattisgarh' Speak To You Directly!

The rustling of the dead leaves falling on the trail
The chirping of the birds
Rare sightings of the leopard
Even rarer sightings of the wolf
Where a wagtail will lead you throughout

Forests can literally talk in Chhattisgarh. This is not an exaggeration. The state has recently been touted as the "best emerging domestic tourism destination" by Lonely Planet India, but you have to visit to feel the state's enigmatic and as yet untouched wilderness. Try giving the usual and crowded forest circuits of India a miss and visit the offbeat, quiet and rivetingly charming Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary.
